Kāla i ka lā literally means "light of the sun," indicating the afterglow. I look at this necklace and while trying it on, I felt the energy, and it is so beautiful.
This beautiful lei is 15.5" strung with very strong jewelry wire to ensure longevity. I decided to keep it simple, with 1 luminous golden pearl, while two 21K heavy gold-plated beads frame it. It shines brilliantly, and I'm sure it will on you too!
- Genuine Sunrise Shell crafted chips: Approx. 202 Hand-crafted sunrise chips carefully created by Lahaina Girl, made with broken sunrise shells sourced from Oahu's North shore divers. They dive 30-150 feet deep and never take shells alive. They radiate warm hues of orange, pink, and gold that echo the first light of dawn.
- Baroque Edison Pearl: 1 luminous, one-of-a-kind golden pearl adds a touch of elegance and timeless beauty. Measures 10mm.
- 14K Gold-Filled Lobster Clasp: Durable and tarnish-free, this premium clasp ensures secure wear while complementing the lei's organic design
- 14K Gold-filled 2" extender: providing you with a few options when wearing
- Finished with Lahaina Girl bright gold jewelry charm
I have only found a couple artisans who create these in Hawaii besides myself (and sell for much more money!)

Process: Creating this piece is a very time-consuming, and detailed process. I purchase rare sunrise shells or chips (from a Hawaiian diver on the North Shore of Oahu) that aren't worthy of being a statement piece on its own. Each shell is not inexpensive so I am very careful in creating with them.
- clean with a special vinegar solution with heavy rubber gloves and wire brush
- carefully deconstructed/cut into smaller pieces hoping not to disintegrate the shell!
- drill the hole and sand into perfectly paired pieces
- repeat...over and over until sanded and sized perfectly
- string on cord or chain until they fall into place like they never left each other's side! I usually have to string and unstring the shell chips dozens of times.
