Sea Of Glass

One of the wonders of the ocean is turning glass thrown into the ocean into a beautiful treasure, that have years of churning next to fish and other marine life. Most sea glass takes 20-50 years to acquire its individual shape and frosted surface, but some tumble for up to 100 years before being permanently beached. Some pieces may be washed ashore after only about 10 years of tumbling in a constant surf environment. A treasured piece of sea glass is frosted, and the edges smoothed from the tumbling. The frost and pitting of Genuine Sea Glass are how you tell it was made by nature. There are many different kinds of Sea Glass from "Rounds" (the bottom of bottles) to patterned glass or embossed that still retails some of its original origin (Glass imprinted with name brands patterns etc.) to one of my favorites, campfire glass (glass that has been melted in a fire and then worn smooth by the ocean). Colors of the sea Common - White, Green, Brown found in most beach combing locations throughout the world. Unique colors are Greens Browns and Whites glass with age, thickness or patterning.Unique - Olive greens, pale ambers Somewhat Rare - Seafoam Green (light greens), Pale Aqua, Amber Rare - Cobalt Blue, Lavender, Aqua, Light Blue, Lime GreenRare and Ultra Rare - Red, Orange, Yellow, Gray, Teal, Pink, Aqua, Opaque Glass (Milk White, Jadeite)Rainbow of Colors - Those pieces of glass that are so unique and usually maintain a pattern or shape of the original source (i.e. bottle stoppers, marbles, embossed glass pieces, pattern glass, old glass tiles, bonfire glass, multicolored glass). There are many articles, and books about Sea Glass. It is captivating and so cool! I find ALL my sea glass on the shores of Maui and Oahu. xo
