Exclusive Collection of exceptionally special leis created from Hawaiian endemic Sunrise Shells. Endemic means they do not exist anywhere else in the entire world. These shells are very rarely found on shore as most of them are found by specialty divers 30-150 feet down under, miles offshore of Oahu and Kaui, and Niihau. The divers I work with NEVER collect live shells...ever.

The Sunrise is identified as Langford's Pecten Scallop Shell. A deep-water scallop that boasts vibrant colors of yellows, oranges, and pinks, and even blue, much like the colors of a sunrise. Occasionally there will be an Albino (white) Sunrise...super rare and very cool!  Moonrises boast colors of darker greens, yellows, and darker colors than the Sunrise shell. Sunrise and Moonrise shells are an extremely rare and sacred shell, containing every color of the spectrum. They are one of the most treasured shells to both natives and visitors. They range in size from a dime to a silver dollar.

The shells are often given as gifts or used in traditional Hawaiian ceremonies, such as weddings and blessings. Process of Preparing the Shell for Jewelry

Hawaiian Sunrise and Moonrise Shells are not usually found in perfectly clean, pristine condition. Most of the time they will be covered with calcium deposits, a hard white crusting that grows on the shell as it lies on the ocean floor. Calcium deposits must be removed by using a fine wire brush and many, many hours of scrubbing!
