I purchase rare sunrise shells or chips (from a Hawaiian diver on the North Shore of Oahu) that aren't worthy of being a statement piece on its own. Each shell is not inexpensive, so I am very careful in creating with them. clean with a special vinegar solution with heavy rubber gloves and wire brush carefully deconstructed/cut into smaller pieces hoping not to disintegrate the shell! drill the hole and sand into perfectly paired pieces repeat...over and over until sanded and sized perfectly string on cord or chain until they fall into place like they never left each other's side! I usually have to string and unstring the shell chips dozens of times. I have only found a couple artisans who create these in Hawaii besides myself (and sell for much more money!)
